WARNING: Spoilers for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #7
Summary
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex finally provides the important character development for Mitsuki that the manga was lacking. Tensions rise as Boruto becomes the world’s most wanted criminal, leaving Mitsuki to deal with complicated emotions. Without the context of the Boruto anime, Mitsuki’s emotional moments do not take place as much as in the manga.
Boruto: Two blue tornadoes finally launched Mitsuki important character development that manga readers have sorely missed. The dramatic events that led to the time skip of the Boruto series with the swapping of Boruto and Kawaki’s positions had significant consequences in the shinobi world, especially with one of Team 7’s members. Boruto, Mitsuki. Orochimaru’s “son” gets more attention in the anime than in the manga. Thankfully, the latest chapter changes that.
Tensions continue to rise after a dramatic period reveals the complex web of ramifications resulting from Boruto becoming the most wanted criminal in the shinobi world. The false news of Boruto killing Naruto caused much outrage, especially in Konoha. The tension between Boruto and his former teammate Mitsuki reaches its climax in chapter #7.
After launching a surprise attack against Boruto, Mitsuki seems determined to take him down for good. However, during the timeskip, Boruto learned some new techniques that helped him become stronger than ever. That doesn’t stop Mitsuki from facing his complicated emotions, which the anime sadly explores better than the manga.
Most of Mitsuki’s backstory is told in the Boruto Anime
Boruto by Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto, chapter #7, “The Sun’s Place”
Mitsuki begins as a mysterious addition to Boruto’s team, who is eventually revealed to be the offspring of the once cruel villain, Orochimaru. Although there is a lot of additional content, the Boruto anime contains a lot more information about Mitsuki and his relationship with Boruto. Mitsuki holds Boruto in high regard, going so far as to call himself the “moon” and Boruto the “sun” that gives him light, but this important detail is known only to fans of the anime adaptation. A very important story about Mitsuki was only published in “chapter #0” of Boruto, “Naruto Gaiden: The Path Illuminated by the Full Moon”.
“Naruto Gaiden: The Path Illuminated by the Full Moon” was published in English by Viz Media as part of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Vol. 1 trade paperback
After that, the manga barely mentions Mitsuki or gives him any meaningful development. However, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #7 created a clever writing technique that effectively broke the couple’s relationship. With the influence of Eida’s broken Omnipotent power, the memories and relationships of most of the world swapped Boruto and Kawaki’s places. So, the strong respect and loyalty that Mitsuki had for Boruto now belongs to Kawaki, but as chapter #7 revealed, even he realizes that something is different.
Because of the switch, everything Mitsuki said to Boruto about Kawaki directly reflected the feelings he once had for Boruto. However, because Kawaki has a very different personality from Boruto, Mitsuki begins to doubt the devotion his false memories bring. At the end of chapter #7, Mitsuki is still wondering about the truth, which means he can become Boruto’s ally again.
Readers who only read the manga are missing out on important context for Mitsuki
Mitsuki is an interesting character who deserves the same attention in the manga that he was given in the anime. Unfortunately, especially after Kawaki was introduced, his character seemed to be pushed aside so the story could develop Kawaki further. Fans must see both Boruto anime and read the manga if they want to know the full context of Mitsuki and Boruto’s relationship. Without the complete picture, the emotional impact of MitsukiIts struggle lacks the appeal it should have.
