The 51st Angoulême International Comics Festival announced the nominations and the contest nominated the following manga works for the Official Choice award (Best Comic):
The Poe Clan volume 1 by Moto Hagio, Confidences D’une Prostituée (Shōfu Naomi Yawa) by Takao Saito, Four Japan in San Francisco 1904-1924 (Four Immigrants Comics) by Henry Yoshitaka Kiyama, and Desire in the Rain by Yoshiharu Tsuge (Works 1981-1985) was nominated in the Heritage Selection category.
The following manga series were also nominated in the Youth Selection category: Tokyo Aliens volume 5 by Naoe, Daemons of the Shadow Realm volume 1 by Hiromu Arakawa and Afternoon Yawns (Gogo no Akubi) volume 1 by Shinya Komatsu.
Hayao Miyazaki’s manga Shuna’s Journey was nominated for the “Sélection Eco-Fauve Raja” award (for works that address ecological issues).
Utsubora volume 2 by Asumiko Nakamura was nominated for the “Sélection Fauve Polar SCNF Voyageurs Award” (for crime and thriller works).
No manga was nominated for the “Fauve des Lycéens Selection” (for high school students).
Angoulême Festival will take place from January 24-28 in the Angoulême region of France. The festival debuted in 1974 as an event celebrating comics from countries around the world.
