Blue Exorcist will get a new anime season following the Shimane Illuminati Saga, with details to be revealed at the show's Anime Japan 2024 stage on Sunday. Studio VOLN animated the sequel, with Daisuke Yoshida as director. The anime aired 12 episodes from January 6 to March 23.
The Blue Exorcist anime is based on the manga by Kazue Katou. It began being serialized in Jump Square magazine in 2009. The first anime season aired in the spring of 2011, but it has the anime's original final arc (episodes 16-25). In 2012, the movie Blue Exorcist was released. The second season is titled Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga and aired in winter 2017. It omits the anime-only arc from the prequel and continues to adapt the manga's plot. There is also a side story titled Blue Exorcist: Kuro's Trip Away From Home, as well as 2 OVA episodes from season 2. A-1 Pictures animated the entire film adaptation. The main cast includes:
- Nobuhiko Okamoto plays Rin Okumura
- Jun Fukuyama plays Yukio Okumura
- Kana Hanazawa as Shiemi Moriyama
- Eri Kitamura plays Izumo Kamiki
