Bleach’s Mangaka Tite Kubo features the lieutenant of the Gotei 13’s 10th Division in new artwork.
Posted on Twitter, the image shows Rangiku Matsumoto wearing stylish streetwear and looking at himself in the mirror with a pensive look. Notably, her white shirt refers to her Zanpakutō – Haineko – which turns into a cloud of ash in her released Shikai form.
The Rangiku artwork further highlights Kubo’s fashion sense and talent for drawing sheer dripping outfits. Many of the trailers and endings in the original Bleach anime feature characters wearing trendy clothes that also showcase their individual personalities. This trend has continued in the new animated series, Bleach: The Thousand Years of Blood; The sequel’s latest opening theme animation shows a host of characters, including protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki and fan favorites like Renji Abarai, Uryū Ishida, and Rukia Kuchiki, embracing their unique drip forms.
Bleach: The Thousand Years’ Blood War is adapted from the last chapters of the Manga
Adapted from the final chapters of Kubo’s best-selling manga, which was dropped from Studio Pierrot’s first Bleach anime, Thousand Years of Blood launches its first season in October 2022. The story depicts the events of the brutal conflict between Soul Society and Wandenreich, a secret empire of Quincy. It introduces a lot of new characters, including the mysterious members of Zero Division and the villainous Yhwach, and focuses on many returning characters like Captain Shunsui Kyoraku and Shinji Hirako.
The second season of the Thousand Year Blood War premiered earlier this month as part of the summer 2023 anime lineup, along with other highly anticipated series such as Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon, Fate/strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn and Horimiya: The Missing Pieces. The second installment of the sequel features major shake-ups in the ongoing war between the Soul Society and Wandenreich, with the latter beginning to experience rifts in loyalty and cohesion between its most senior members – the Sternritter.
Furthermore, The Thousand Years’ Blood Battle introduces some of Ichigo’s personal development, both on and off the battlefield. Some viewers have pointed out the absence of the signature hollow mask of the alternate god of death, which he has worn in many of the toughest battles in the past. This change could indicate a progression in Ichigo’s relationship with his inner void and his maturity as a warrior.
The Thousand Years of Blood is available to stream on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally. Studio Pierrot’s original Bleach anime can be found on Hulu.
