Fall 50 years ago, the scariest movie in history – The Exorcist hit the screen, shocking audiences around the world. Still coming in the fall, but this year, a new chapter of the series will officially kick off, directed by David Gorden Green and studio Blumhouse, titled Haunted: The Believer (original title: The Exorcist: Believer).

The 1973 film The Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin, is one of the best horror films ever made, changing pop culture forever. Based on the best-selling book by William Peter Blatty, it was the first horror film ever to be nominated for Best Picture, wiping box office records and earning 10 Academy Awards nominations. Haunted Demon: Follower of 2023 will bring a story that revolves around the next developments from the original story, promising to honor the legacy of the film franchise, while making a unique difference.
Since the death of his pregnant wife in the Haiti earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding has been raising his daughter Angela on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine suddenly disappear in the forest after school, many strange situations gradually appear from here. Suddenly returning after three days, the two girls have no memory of what happened to them. Looking back, Angela can only remember that the children walked for many hours in the forest.
Immediately after, a series of horrifying images appeared, making the audience “cold”. Angela and Katherine are both showing strange symptoms, both physically and mentally. For the first time since the 1973 film, veteran actress Ellen Burstyn takes on her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress forever changed by what happened to her. daughter Regan five decades ago. Realizing the demonic manifestations tormenting to the extreme horror of the two girls, she decided to perform various methods of exorcism to try to save the child.
Different from last time, in Haunted: Believer, there is not just one victim, but the synchronous dual possession of both Angela and Katherin. At the end of the trailer, Angela and Katherine’s hearts even beat in perfect harmony. Another surprise was opened to the audience when Chris told Katherin that “we’ve met before”, bringing an open question. Is this the same demon that possessed Regan before?
Haunted: The Believer is directed by David Gordon Green, based on a script in cooperation with Peter Sattler (Camp X-Ray) and Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), Danny Mcbride (Halloween Kills). David Gordon Green is also the name behind the trilogy of reboots of the hit Halloween horror series including Halloween, Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends. The film will be produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse with David Robinson and James G. Robinson.
Along with Burstyn as Chris MacNeil and Odom Jr. as Angela’s father, the film also stars Jennifer Nettles (Harriet, The Righteous Gemstones) and two girls Lidya Jewett, Olivia Marcum, Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale, Hereditary) and Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon) , Bloodline).
Haunted: BELIEVER (original title: THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER) is scheduled to premiere October 2023.
