Yoshihiro Togashi, the author and illustrator of Hunter x Hunter, has revealed that he is considering multiple endings for the long-running Shonen Jump series.
According to Oricon News, Togashi revealed four possible Hunter x Hunter endings on the TV talk show Iwakura to Yoshizumi no Bangumi (Iwakura and Yoshizumi’s Show). During the show, Togashi said he had developed three possible endings for Hunter x Hunter, while a fourth ending he had previously skipped could be used if he died before completing his manga. .
Based on the details shared by Togashi about the fourth abandoned ending (“ending D”), the script will reflect the beginning of Hunter x Hunter. Taking place many years in the future, a young girl named Gin is fishing in a pond. Gin brings her catch of the day to her mother and declares that she can never ask her to become a hunter again. The mother argues with Gin’s father about her future, expressing disappointment that Gin does not want to be like her famous hunter grandfather Gon. Gin reveals that the reason she doesn’t want to become a hunter like Gon is because her grandfather often leaves Nouko home alone on his adventures. After vowing to never leave the island and stay with someone forever, a guy walks into Gin’s room. The series ends with someone watching birds fly into the sky.
Regarding the other endings, Togashi believes that ending A will have the best reception, with an 80% chance of a positive response from readers. He clarified that the positive reception does not mean ending A will be appreciated but that it will be “safe” and “non-controversial” with readers. On the other hand, ending B will be divided equally among the readers. However, ending C will be the most controversial among readers, possibly leading to an extremely negative reception. Despite this predicted outcome, Togashi preferred ending C the most. No details about endings A, B and C were shared.
While Hunter x Hunter fans may be relieved to know that the series has multiple endings in the event of Togashi’s death, Togashi’s admission that poor health may leave him unable to complete his own into a series that evokes the tragic death of Berserk creator Kentaro Miura. Hunter x Hunter fans are well aware of the author’s serious health problems, which caused the Shonen Jump manga to take a hiatus for several years over the years. Previously, Togashi opened up about the difficulties he faced during his recovery, such as chronic back pain and loss of function in his right hand.
In early March, Togashi shared a positive update on the progress of the Hunter x Hunter manga continuation. On social media platform The number of jobs only increased little by little.
The English release of the Hunter x Hunter manga is handled by Viz Media. The 1999 and 2011 Hunter x Hunter anime series are available on multiple streaming platforms, including Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu.
