The world of Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan series is one where humans soar through the skies while taking down giant monsters. Next month, popular Japanese flight simulator Fuji Airways will let AoT fans step into this world with an immersive CG ride based on the series' iconic “Liberio Raid” sequence.
According to PR Times, the Fuji-Q Highland amusement park in Yamanashi Prefecture recently revealed an upcoming attraction called “Attack on Titan: The Ride: Battle of Rebellion,” which uses Fuji Airways’ first-person simulation technology to create a brand-new experience based on the final season of AoT. The park’s official website provides a detailed description: “As a rookie in the Survey Corps, you will join Levi, Mikasa, and Jean on a mission to support Eren, who is battling five powerful Titans. Use the 3D Maneuver Gear that enables fast aerial movement and the ‘Lightning Spear,’ an anti-Titan weapon to confront Titans such as the ‘Beast,’ the ‘Jaw,’ and the ‘Cart.’” The ride is scheduled to open on September 17, 2024.
Japan Gets Its First Attack on Titan Battle Simulator Ride at Fuji-Q Highland
As shown in the promotional image, “Attack on Titan: Battle for Rebellion” recreates the franchise’s iconic titans with realistic CG designs not seen in the Attack on Titan anime. These images are projected onto a 20-meter-long screen with a hemispherical design that surrounds the rider, creating a completely immersive space. The seats themselves also move in sync with the action on screen. As the sequence of events unfolds, the rider’s seat will “vigorously” move up and down and side to side, simulating the feeling of using a 3D Controller in a chaotic titan battle. The entire experience lasts about eight minutes and costs about 2,000 yen (US$13.80) per person.
Fuji-Q Highland is currently hosting another Attack on Titan-inspired attraction. Originally set to open in 2023, “Attack on Titan: The Ride – Wall Maria Final Recapture Mission” recreates the military’s attempt to retake one of humanity’s protective walls from the invading Titans. Unlike the sequel, this attraction is inspired by the first half of the series, specifically Season 1, Episodes 1 and 2 of Wit Studio’s original Attack on Titan anime series. Likewise, “Wall Maria Final Recapture Mission” also features a first-person simulation experience where riders “fight” alongside human soldiers against the invading Titans. This attraction is scheduled to close on August 31, 2024.
Although both the Attack on Titan manga and the popular anime adaptation have come to an end, the creators of the popular media franchise are still looking to release more new content for fans. MAPPA, which took over production of the AoT anime after Season 3, recently released the first trailer for Attack on Titan: The Final Season: The Final Chapters: Last Attack, a theatrical re-creation of the series' epic final battle. The film's Japanese release date is November 8, 2024. Additionally, the official Attack on Titan stage musical, which received rave reviews from Hajime Isayama, will have its first overseas performance in the United States on October 11-13, 2024.
“Attack on Titan: The Ride: Battle of Rebellion” will premiere on September 17. In the meantime, the Attack on Titan manga is available in English from Kodansha USA. The popular anime adaptation by Wit Studio and MAPPA can be streamed on Hulu and Crunchyroll.
