The “Attack on Titan” manga series ended in April 2021, and the anime adaptation is also coming to an end. However, recent trailers suggest that something new is in the works for the series.
The anime series, currently in its fourth and final season, has been divided into several seasons. The final segment titled “Attack on Titan Final Chapters Special 2” is scheduled for release in fall 2023.
Fans believed this would mark the end of the series, but recent developments have sparked new speculation.
On the occasion of the 14th anniversary of “Attack on Titan”, Shintaro Kawakubo, manga editor, announced that new information will be released on October 4. Kawakubo’s tweet is translated as follows:
“Today is September 9, 2023. It has been 14 years since ‘Attack on Titan’ began serialization. I’m finally about to fulfill the promise I’ve often discussed with everyone throughout the series! We plan to release new information starting October 4, so please stay tuned @shingeki_FLY for updates.”

While some fans speculate that this could be the exact release date for the final anime chapter, the creation of a new Twitter account, @shingeki_FLY, suggests that this announcement could be even more important .

Speculations range from the launch of a new game to the launch of the official “Attack on Titan” website. However, it is unlikely that Hajime Isayama will return to write a sequel, even though the series is open-ended.
In a previous interview, Isayama dismissed the idea of a sequel or spin-off, saying, “There is no reason for any sequels or derivative works. Although we have received a lot of requests from fans, it is not possible. Actually, I’m quite tired and my next project hasn’t been decided yet.”
While attending the Anime NYC convention in November 2022, Hajime Isayama admitted that he was aware of the controversial ending of Attack on Titan, saying “I knew that the ending of Attack on Titan was quite controversial. I’m open to everyone’s honest opinions. However, I would appreciate it if you were kind to me.”
The manga “Attack on Titan” has been adapted into an anime by two different studios: Wit Studio and MAPPA. Initially, Wit Studio handled the animation for the first three seasons. However, they withdrew from the project due to financial constraints.
Taking over the line, Studio MAPPA continued to animate “Attack on Titan” until the end. The studio released the first part of the final season in December 2020, followed by the second part in January 2022. The third and final part is divided into two special segments.
The first special premieres in March 2023, while the second special is scheduled to air in the Fall, from October to December.
TL;DR
It is still unclear whether Shintaro Kawakubo’s announcement is related to a new project or something equally exciting. For now, all we have is a date—October 4—and a new Twitter account to follow.
