The production team for the television anime adaptation of the manga “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” (Sōsō no Frieren) by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe announced two additional cast members on Saturday.
The anime series is scheduled to premiere with a two-hour special episode on September 29 at 9 p.m. JST (8:00 a.m. EDT). Notably, this is the first television anime series to premiere on NTV’s “Kinyō Roadshow,” a Friday night programming block usually reserved for feature films. The next episodes of the anime will air in October as part of NTV’s new anime block.

Viz Media holds the license for the manga and provided the following synopsis:
“The adventure is over, but life continues for an elven mage who has just begun his journey to learn the true meaning of life. Frieren, the elven mage, and her brave companions defeated the Demon King, bringing peace to the kingdom. However, Frieren will exist long after her former comrades have passed away.

How will she grapple with the meaning of life as perceived by those around her? Decades after their triumph, the funeral of a dear friend forces Frieren to confront his own near-immortality. So, she embarks on a mission to fulfill her teammate’s last wish, starting a whole new adventure…”
Taking on the role of the main character and protagonist Frieren, is Atsumi Tanezaki.

Keiichirō Saitō, known for his work “Bocchi the Rock! ”, directs anime production at Madhouse. Tomohiro Suzuki, credited with works such as “ACCA: 13 Territorial Inspection Office.” and “One-Punch Man” is responsible for writing the script for the series. Reiko Nagasawa, recognized for “takt op. Destiny,” she showcased her talent in character design. Evan Call, known for his compositions on “Violet Evergarden” and “Josee, The Tiger and the Fish,” is in charge of the music.
Opening with the powerful anthem “Yūsha” (Hero) is YOASOBI, while Milet closes the show with the melodious tune “Anytime, Anywhere.”
The manga boasts an impressive collection of awards, including the New Creator Award at the 25th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Awards in 2021 and the 14th Manga Taisho Awards at the same time year.

Furthermore, it received a nomination for Best Shōnen Manga at Kodansha’s 45th Annual Manga Awards in 2021 and the 46th award in May 2022. Recognized for his excellence, manga earned a spot on the American Library Association’s top 10 Graphic Novels and Comics Roundtable (GNCRT) list for the 2022 Best Graphic Novels for Adults Reading List.
