The series also has two manga adaptations: the manga of the same name by Itsuki Nanao, illustrated by Nekokurage in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan; and “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Maomao no Kokyu Nazotoki Techo (Apothecary Diary: Manual for Solving the Mystery of Maomao's Palace Monastery)” by Minoji Kurata in Shogakukan's Gene-X Monthly Sunday Magazine.
The anime is available on Netflix and Crunchyroll in select regions. Crunchyroll describes the plot: Maomao lives a peaceful life with her medicine-selling father. Until one day, she was sold as a lowly servant to the emperor's palace. But she has no intention of living a life of royal compliance. So when the royal heirs fell ill, she decided to step in and find a cure! This catches the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official, who promotes her. Now, she's making a name for herself solving medical mysteries!
