It is not uncommon for American characters to appear in cartoonand when they do, it will become obvious. Such characters are often different from the rest of the cast – loud and boisterous, obstinate and can be depicted with blonde hair. Typically, such characters will wear red, white, and blue outfits, or even just wear an American flag somewhere on their bodies. They are also likely to mention that they are from the US, sometimes repeatedly and at every opportunity.
While one might think that Americans can be offended at first glance, often these characters are among the most loved by American audiences. Portraits of Americans can be overwhelming to the point of being endearing, and that’s the case for most of these people, the ten greatest American characters in anime.
10 Jason Chrysler–Size W
Jason Chrysler is America’s premier restoration dealer who operates under the modest name “Hero”. His job involves purchasing what are known as Coils, special devices that draw infinite energy from the Dimension W of the same name in a clean and easy way. He is a classic playboy millionaire, usually surrounded by beautiful women. He’s willing to bet anything to win big, but he’s not a bad guy in the end. In his Hero costume, Jason Chrysler wears a blue mask with a red cape and silver armor, giving him a very American color palette.
9 Maxwell–Gundam Wing duo
Duo Maxwell is the pilot of Gundam Deathscythe in Gundam Wing. He’s actually from an American space colony rather than an American, so he actually deviated from the stereotype a bit. Duo is a good kid who has witnessed a lot of death in his life, referring to himself as the god of death or “the great destroyer” depending on the translation. He is a close friend of the protagonist of the series Heero Yuy, and is generally a kind, likable guy, although one who can be quick to get violent. In an unusual twist, Duo ends up becoming a religious minister, which is not usually associated with Americans in the anime.
8 Alfred “America” Jones–Axis Powers Hetalia
It’s hard to get more Americans than one personified representation of the whole country. He is a strong character who always needs to be the center of attention, often shouting “I am a Hero!” and lose motivation to act if no one keeps track of your achievements. Alfred loves to eat junk food, especially burgers, although he may be self-conscious about his weight. His problem-solving plans can be really crazy, such as building a giant robot to literally fight global warming, but in the end, he saves them all. day on a regular basis.
7 Rebecca “Revy” Lee–Black Dress
Revy is Chinese-American, which also makes her a bit unconventional for the American cartoon stereotype. Her standard look shows her wearing short shorts and a tank top, as American characters tend to be much more modest. Revy was always hot-tempered, with two guns always strapped to her back. She is known to be rude and loud, and also drinks and smokes a lot, mainly as a way to relax from any violence. However, given the nature of Black Lagoon, she is exactly the type of character that can not only survive but thrive in these chaotic and purple conditions.
6 “Gold” Ryan Goldsmith–Tiger and Bunny
While not explicitly American, Golden Ryan is a hero who had a career overseas before coming to Sternbild. He loves to perform and has a lot of flashy tricks he uses to get attention on him. Like many of the people on this list, he is loud and boisterous, and a bit egotistical, especially due to his impressive ability to manipulate gravity. As the other heroes learn about him, however, he turns out to be more in touch with his emotions than one might expect, and he remains truly the hero when the situation calls for it.
5 Bandits Keith–You-Gi-Oh!
Bandit Keith is the US Duel Monsters champion, however Pegasus has shamed him in public, and now he’s out for revenge. Bandit Keith is clearly not a good guy, as he has trapped Yugi and friends, stolen the Millennium Puzzle, and cheated in duels. At one point, he even took Pegasus hostage with a gun, although the gun was removed in the English dub. Pegasus even (actually) mocked Keith for falling far behind the champion. It’s definitely one of the more negative depictions on this list, demonstrating how selfishness can develop when one is too cocky, but he’s made famous thanks to the Abridged series memes all around. figure.
4 Star and Stripe–My Hero Academia
Anime fans only met Star and Stripe at the end of season 6, but she was an important character when she appeared. America’s leading hero Star and Stripe, whose real name is Cathleen Bate, has her own squadron of fighter jets operating at her command. Her Quirk, New Order, allows her to impose rules on villains, radically limiting their ability to fight back. Star and Stripe is All Might’s patron, and sets off for Japan as soon as she hears All Might is asking for help without even asking for permission. She has the classic American disdain for power, unsurpassed confidence, and a strength that should not be underestimated.
3 Lt. Surge–Pokémon
Dubbed the “American Lightning” since the first generation, Lt. Surge is truly a strange thing in the Pokémon world. He claims to have fought in a war alongside Pokémon and tends to take Pokémon battles seriously. In the anime, Lt. Surge is a large, muscular man who is taller than Ash and teases him about his Pikachu not being evolved. However, when Ash and Pikachu were able to earn his respect, Lt. Surge changed dramatically. In later appearances, Lt. Surge is said to really take his battle with Ash seriously, telling the story to his fitness trainers to encourage them not to underestimate his opponents.
Tessa is the captain of the submarine Tuatha De Danaan and a member of Mithril, an anti-terrorist organization. Tessa was born an American, but grew up primarily on military bases. She is said to be a prodigy, explaining how she commanded a submarine at such a young age and helped create both the submarine and its AI, Dana. Besides expressing her feelings when the time runs out, Tessa also tries to avoid many of the American stereotypes commonly seen in anime. In many ways, she’s the best of what America has: talented, professional, intelligent, and equipped with the firepower to support it all.
1 The Strange Adventures of Joseph Joestar–Jojo
Although technically British by birth, Joseph Joestar is an American Jojo, introduced in New York City and will spend most of his life there. Joseph was very different from his grandfather, Jonathan, who was a stronghold of good and right. Instead, Joseph tends to be a little selfish, a little cowardly (“Joestar’s secret technique”), and quite pompous. However, these flaws make Joseph a more interesting protagonist, propelling him to become one of the most popular Jojo characters. When something important is about to happen, Joseph can become serious in an instant, and those who pushed him into battle will likely regret it, even in his old age.
Many of these American anime characters have personalities that reflect how Japan sees America in general and the original author in particular. They tend to exhibit both the best and worst traits of a stereotypical American: loud, rude, and violent, but also loyal, courageous, and well-prepared, with all of these traits. up to 11. These anime Americans often prove themselves to be valuable allies in the end, even if the protagonist doesn’t like them too much on first meeting. It’s not hard to see why Americans tend to love American characters in cartoonbecause even negative roles are dynamic and positive characters who are rarely taken as personal insults.
