If you skipped or disliked Tokyo Revengers because of its main character, then the anime Wind Breaker is for you because its main character can actually fight.
The spring anime season has begun, with the first episodes of many series now airing. We've seen an isekai series where the hero was reincarnated as an Ogre and another series where the main character's character design weirded out many viewers.
Amidst this crowded area, one film has made a name for itself: Windbreaker. Not to be confused with Wind Breaker Manhwa, an anime based on the manga by Nii Satoru. This crime anime has really set Spring in its tracks, comparing it to recent genre standouts like Tokyo Revengers and Bucchigiri.

So what makes Wind Breaker different? First of all, the main character Haruka Sakura is not someone who is easily persuaded. Sakura is a social outcast, shunned by society because of her unique appearance with two different colored eyes and hair.
But what Sakura lacks in the way of social interactions, he more than makes up for with his fighting prowess. This is in stark contrast to Tokyo Revengers' Takemichi Hanagaki, whose inability to fight on his own was a sticking point for some viewers.
Seeking to become top dog, Sakura enrolls in Fuurin High School, a haven for students who have difficulty learning and tend to fall. On the night before her first day, Sakura's path crosses with Kotoha Tachibana, a cafe waitress, when he saves her from a group of delinquents from a rival school.
Tachibana reveals to Sakura that going it alone won't work at Furin High School – which is headed by “Bofurin”, the school's dominant gang. From there, Sakura's journey begins to fight her way to the top of the criminal food chain.
Animated by the talented folks at Studio CloverWorks, known for hits like Spy x Family, Horimiya and Bocchi the ROCK, the first episode of Wind Breaker showcases the studio's top animated films movie.
It's hard to wonder how a powerhouse like CloverWorks could elevate a franchise like Tokyo Revengers if they came out on top.
Nii Satoru, the creator of the Wind Breaker manga, has been open about his love for Tokyo Revengers and it shows in his work. But instead of a simple homage, Satoru could have created a series that goes beyond its inspiration.
With a compelling protagonist, top-notch animation, and the promise of intense crime action, Wind Breaker is shaping up to be the breakout hit of the spring anime season. If you've been re-watching Tokyo Revengers or are missing a main character, Wind Breaker might be the series you've been waiting for.
If you plan to watch the Wind Breaker anime, the first episode is already out on Crunchyroll. Furthermore, Crunchyroll is planning to roll out the multiple profiles on one account feature later this month, so stay tuned for that.
