In the anime’s story, a young engineer named Tetsurō Okino who developed the new robot Bullbuster is transferred to Hato Industries, a pest extermination company. There, the company and its president Kōji Tajima face a mysterious life form named “Kyojū”. As a small business that is always short of money, Hato always has to calculate all costs such as fuel and pilot labor. And of course, missing shots will not be accepted. The company is always caught between the ideal of destroying Kyōju and the realities of the economy.
Film director Hiroyuki Nakao and PICS are credited with the original planning and work. Manga creator Eisaku Kubonouchi (original character designer by Carole & Tuesday) drew up the original character design. Hiroyasu Aoki (Hero Mask director) is directing the anime and is responsible for writing the series’ scripts at NUT. Takahisa Katagiri (animation director for FLCL Progressive, Hero Mask) is adapting Kubonuouchi’s designs into animation, and is also the animation director. Junji Okubo (Overlord Monster Designer) is a mechanical designer.
NORISTRY will perform the opening theme song “Try-ry-ry”.
The franchise began as a concept book released at Comic Market (Comiket) and COMITIA events. The book focuses on the concept of “This is an economically legitimate robot hero story.” The project’s staff included Nakao, Kubonouchi, science fiction writer Yūya Takashima, and Okubo.
Kadokawa has published two novels in the series. Nakao is credited as the author of the original work and Seiji Ebihara wrote the novel.
