Berserk is a Japanese manga created by the late artist Kentaro Miura, launched in 1989 and lasting until now. Berserk’s content revolves around the character Guts, a man known as the Black Swordsman. Betrayed by his former teammate Griffith, Guts sets out to seek revenge…
Any Berserk fan will tell you that the anime adaptation situation of the series is pretty dire. The 1997 Berserk anime has a large following and is considered the best adaptation fans have received, compared to the poor effort of the 2016 Berserk 3D animated series. Unfortunately, this is the only Berserk anime Most appreciated.
Berserk was first adapted into a 25-episode anime television series, broadcast from October 1997 to March 1998. The Golden Age arc was then adapted into a cinematic anime trilogy. The first two films premiered in 2012, the third film premiered in 2013.
The most recent anime adaptation of Berserk aired from 2016 to 2017, with a total of 24 episodes, taking the content of the Conviction arc and the first part of the Millennium Falcon arc. However, to date, no more anime adaptations have been released.
Because of that, a group of fans gathered to make a faithful anime adaptation of Berserk’s Black Swordsman arc. The fan-made anime Berserk received great support.
TEASER | BERSERK: The Black Swordsman
Since its upload in October 2023, the teaser video has garnered more than 1.2 million views on YouTube, and the project has gained more and more support over time. By proxy, this group of fans is consolidating their interest in the new Berserk anime.
The teaser trailer and description state: “We aim to create a proper 2D adaptation of the compelling stories that have been overlooked by the medium, starting from the ground up.” This was intended to be an entire adaptation of Berserk’s Black Swordsman arc, the prologue set after the Golden Age that opened the series.
The 1997 anime Berserk, despite briefly mentioning this arc in the first episode, was heavily cut. It only covers the beginning of the Black Swordsman arc, heavily censoring and changing details of the story.
The fan adaptation may aim to faithfully recreate the Black Swordsman storyline, which would have no limitations in terms of accuracy.
Supporting this fan project is Studio ECLYPSE’s Twitter page with a post showing an image of Guts and a villain called “The Count” in his apostle form. The appearance of a famous scene that has never appeared in the anime before further proves that Eclypse is working hard for a faithful adaptation. All Berserk enthusiasts will want to pay attention to this amazing fan-made project.
