One of the most influential manga and anime series of all time is now available on Crunchyroll! Saint Seiya: Knight of the Zodiac has been released with a remastered English dub, ready to entertain a new generation of viewers. The iconic series is a bestseller and an ’80s cartoon classic.
Saint Seiya is a manga series written by Masami Kurumada. It was originally published between 1986 and 1990, with an anime adaptation released between 1986 and 1989. It has had numerous sequels as well as films over the years. The announcement of the streaming availability of this original series comes shortly before the release of the live-action film, Knights of the Zodiac. The series is known for inspiring other popular manga/anime and is the gateway series for anime fans outside of Japan.
Saint Seiya Returns to Streaming – Complete with Dub
Spanning 114 episodes, Saint Seiya, also known as Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac, is now available on Crunchyroll with a remastered English dub. The series follows a group of young men known as “Saints” wearing “Cloths” – or armor – fighting for Athena, the goddess of classical mythology. The series initially adapted the first part of the manga, before diverging from it with an original, and finally ending the series before the manga ended. Despite the differences from the original, it has proven to be a very successful franchise with numerous adaptations and spin-offs.
Currently, Saint Seiya in the English dub is available to stream on Crunchyroll in North America, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Spanish and Portuguese dubs are available in Latin American territories. In addition to this original series, Crunchyroll also offered several spin-off series that followed, including Saint Seiya: Omega (2012), Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho (2018), and the most recent animated film adaptation, Knights of the Zodiac : Saint Seiya (2019). Despite its age, the series continues to thrive, delivering the story of the Saints to new audiences in new iterations. However, it will be great for fans of the original series to experience it again and new viewers to know where it all started.
Saint Seiya is known for its influence on series like Mobile Suit Gundam Wing – another fan favorite – and in other ways, like the weapon design in Tite Kubo’s Bleach. This successful Toei Animation animated film was one of several produced by the company at the time, along with Dragon Ball and several Transformers series.
