Warning! Spoiler for the Demon Slayer manga below. Inner breathing patterns demon slayer are a big part of the series’ appeal, especially in the anime, where they are brought to life in such a beautiful way. Potential Demon Assassins must practice in at least one style to be officially recognized, and an Assassin can use two or more styles. Each style is unique, and there are quite a few of them to be exact – 14 to be exact. Many of these styles are used by only a single character in the entire series, making the styles signature that’s almost part of the character.
When considering the strength of a style, it is important to think about the user’s success in battle, as well as versatility, which is most easily measured by the number of forms a style is known for. is yes. Their ease of use also plays a role, with the simpler styles not quite as impressive as those that prove to be more difficult to master. Here are all 14 Demon Slayer Breathing Patterns, ranked.
14 Breath of Flowers
Flower breathing is a style practiced by Kanae Kocho, former Hashira of Flowers and younger sister of Shinobu, as well as Shinobu’s adopted sister and student, Kanao Tsuyuri. Unfortunately, since Kanae died before the series began, there aren’t many Flower Breathing appearances in the series, which is partly responsible for its low ratings. The Flower Breath is said to derive from the Breath of Water and has a number of characteristics in common with it. Although the numbering of forms for this style suggests that there must be at least seven forms, only five are used in the series, and the last form could be blind to the user. Kanao didn’t concentrate much, and as a result the Flower Breath was considered weak.
13 Insect Breath
Insect Breathing is a unique style, derived from Flower Breathing, practiced only by Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho. Because Shinobu is unable to decapitate most demons due to her size, this style relies heavily on poison, mainly created from wisteria flowers that the demons hate. Insect breath also only comes in four known forms, limiting the options she has in battle. At the very least, Shinobu’s record in battle with it is mixed, so it seems this style has a downside when fighting anyone who is aware of its poison.
12 Underwater Breath
The breath of water is one of the five basic elemental styles and is practiced by many characters in the series, most notably Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro himself. It is considered the easiest style to learn, although “easy” is a very relative term. This style is based on the flow of water and includes 10 known forms, plus a special form created by Tomioka that only he knows how to use. The breath of water certainly seems active, but it lacks the power unit.
11 breaths of the beast
Monster breathing is a strange style invented by pig-headed Inosuke Hashibira, and as such only he practices. It’s an unusual style for Inosuke to wield two Nichirin swords, which most demon slayers don’t have the right to wield. It comes in 10 forms, but since they were all developed by Inosuke with minimal training, it is debatable whether they have any formality. The Beast’s Breath surprisingly has several non-combat uses, most notably his seventh form, Spatial Perception, which allows him to sense movement from miles away. It’s certainly not a sophisticated style, but it has raw power.
10 Flame Breaths
Another basic elemental style, Flame Breathing is practiced most notably by Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku. Fire-breathing involves emulating the flickering, burning nature of fire and comes in at least nine forms, although only six have been seen and the ninth is believed to be exclusive to the Kyojuro family. As a style, it certainly has some powerful attacks, but doesn’t seem to be particularly versatile, with no form to be used outside of battle. Unfortunately, Breath of Flame practitioners have a tough on-screen track record, dragging down the ranks very high.
9 breaths of love
Breath of Love is a style practiced exclusively by Mitsuri Kanroji, and she created it from the Breath of Flames. Breath of Love has the appearance of a lithe, flexible dance with many acrobatic movements. It has six forms, only five are shown, with one defensive technique and four offensive techniques. This style was designed for those with Mitsuri’s unusually strong body and wields a whip-like sword, making it impossible for anyone else to learn it. Mitsuri performs quite well in battle for most of the series, which helps show the strength of her style.
8 breaths of snakes
Snake Breath is another style practiced by one person, in this case Obanai Iguro, and originates from the Breath of Water. This style is intended to copy the slithering and rolling movements of a snake. Snake breath comes in five forms, all of which are irritating. However, the fifth form stands out because it is capable of generating enough power to decapitate multiple demons with a single swipe. Obanai also wields a very unusual sword, as his sword has a wavy shape resembling a slithering snake. Obanai has certainly proven himself to be strong, and perhaps his Breathing Style is responsible for this strength.
7 Thunder Breaths
Thunder breathing is one of the basic elemental styles, most notably practiced by Zenitsu Agatsuma and his former student, Kaigaku. This breathing pattern simulates the speed of a lightning bolt, allowing for rapid movement. Zenitsu only knows one form, but there are actually at least six, plus the original one that Zenitsu created. The sheer speed of the Thunder Breath is one of its greatest assets, and Zenitsu has proven it’s possible to push that speed to the limit, performing dozens or more attacks in one motion. Very hard to resist, making it one of the stronger styles.
6 Breathe in the wind
Wind breathing is another basic elemental style, with its main practitioner being Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa. It uses swirling and spinning movements, like those of a tornado, adding power and speed to attacks. It comes in nine forms, with the most offensive in nature, though at least one has defensive applications. It was an amazingly aggressive style, befitting of a battle-crazed assassin like Sanemi. As a Breathing Style designed to take down opponents quickly, it is extremely powerful when used by an expert.
5 breaths with sound
Sound Breath is a variation of Thunder Breath, used exclusively by Tengen Uzui. It uses loud sounds which, as the name suggests, can help break the opponent’s concentration. There are only three known forms of Sound Breath, of which only one is defensive. This style also uses Tengen’s unusual Nichirin, which is made up of two smaller, knife-like blades, connected by a chain. He also uses literal bombs as part of this style, which is definitely a way to increase its power.
4 misty breaths
The Mist Breath, derived from the Wind Breath, is practiced exclusively by Muichiro Tokito. The style revolves around the concealing power of mist or mist, concealing one’s movements to confuse enemies. The Mist Breath comes in seven forms, with one of Tokito’s own original forms. Tokito was able to use the Breath of Mist to single-handedly defeat a high-ranking demon, an impressive feat if ever. Mist Breath’s ability to confuse enemies is an extremely valuable ability when fighting alone, which is often the case with Demon Hunters.
3 stone breaths
Stone breathing is the last of the basic elemental styles, practiced by Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima. It’s inspired by the stability of earth and rock, with many attacks using the ground in some way. The stone’s breath has five known forms, including offense and defense, making it the most balanced of all. Since Gyomei uses a strange ax strapped to his mace as his Nichirin blade, the techniques are quite unusual. Gyomei is known to be the strongest Hashira, and his Stone Breathing form is a big part of why.
Breathe 2 moons
The five elemental styles all derive from one original style, but as it turns out, there’s another that’s rooted in the original: Moon Breathing. Moon Breathing is a style practiced exclusively by the god Kokushibo, who was once a Demon Hunter before giving up his humanity in exchange for a longer life. As such, Kokushibo never taught this technique to anyone else. Since he’s had hundreds of years of training, Moon Breathing comes in at least 16 different forms, and possibly more that he’s never used. It’s a power befitting the highest level demon, and it easily explains how Kokushibo managed to rise to and become Muzan’s right hand man.
Breathe 1 sun
Originally, there was a Breath for killing demons, called the Breath of the Sun. It was developed by Yoriichi Tsugikuni, but proved too difficult for his apprentices to master. He helped them learn and create their own styles, which became different elemental styles. However, each of these elemental styles is only a small part of the whole that is Breath of the Sun. Tanjiro’s Hinokami Kagura is also a type of Breath of the Sun, and fans have certainly seen how powerful that technique can be. As the “real” Breathing Style, its power and utility are almost unquestionable, making Sun Breath an easy choice for the strongest.
Regardless of the rank, most of the Breathing Patterns in Demon Slayer are still extremely powerful techniques and are likely to be ranked lower that get less attention than anything else. It is important to remember that these are only Breathing Patterns in themselves and individual practitioners may be stronger than those who practice a “better” pattern. At the end of the day, demon slayerThe Breathing Patterns are all great additions to the series that helped make it what it is, no matter how powerful they are.
