The manga that the anime is adapting is an underrated work by the late Akira Toriyama, and hopefully the anime will show that this great mangaka has other great works besides Dragon Ball.
The manga SAND LAND was adapted into a movie last year quite successfully. With the success of the film and the upcoming release of the SAND LAND game, it makes sense that an animated television series would be made. Studio Sunrise will be adapting more source material and will soon release a 13-episode anime series.

Another Toriyama Manga comes to life
The reason behind the simultaneous release of the first 7 episodes of the upcoming anime series is that the first six episodes have been directly adapted from the movie, accompanied by some new scenes. Thereafter, episodes 8 to 13 will be released weekly, starting Wednesday, March 27 at 16:00 Japan Standard Time, and will focus on the Heroic Angel arc.
SAND LAND has an RPG game coming out this April.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by war, SAND LAND is set in a world where humans and demons coexist, where water is expensive and hoarded by a greedy king. . The righteous Sheriff Rao asks the Demon King for help in finding a lost lake, and the king agrees to send his son Beelzebub and his assistant Thief with Rao.
SAND LAND is on its way to becoming Toriyama’s next big franchise
With a movie, show and game, its obvious monumental effort is to make the sandy land giant
Although CGI was heavily used in the production of the series, Studio Sunrise managed to pull it off and create a visually stunning and vibrant series that looks as good as other 2-D animated series . This series has everything to love about Dragon Ball: humor, unique character designs, lots of action, and cool vehicles. However, it also has aspects that Toriyama’s biggest series does not have, which set it apart and make it a must-see when it comes to airing.
With the big push SAND LAND is getting with the movie, the video game, and now the series, it’s clear that Studio Sunrise is hoping the series has the potential to become a franchise. The fact that the anime adapted the story beyond the manga is a hopeful sign that these characters and their world have potential beyond their original appearances. SAND LAND its emergence and coming Disney+ release that will excite any fan of Akira Toriyama and his distinct work.
