DMM TV and Kansai TV announced on Thursday that the short manga Kyokugen Fūfu (Extreme Married Couple) by Nanki Satō and Akira Kiduki will be adapted into a live-action series and will premiere on January 18. This is the first collaborative project between DMM TV and Kansai TV.

The series will have 10 episodes and will tell three stories about three different couples. In the first story titled “The Case of the Funakoshi Couple” (episodes 1 to 3), Sayuri Matsumura (pictured above, front center) will play Momoko, a serious housewife who is dedicated to her sadistic husband and former colleague. Boss Takahiro. Terunosuke Takezai (pictured above, middle) will play Takahiro, Momoko’s husband, who treats her like a butler.
In the second story titled “Tamagawa Couple Case” (episodes 4 to 6), Rei Okamoto (pictured above, front left) will play Anzu, a career woman struggling with epilepsy. infertility. Renn Kiriyama (pictured above, back left) will play Naoki, Anzu’s narcissistic and no-good husband.
The third story is titled “The Hokuto Couple Case” (episodes 7 to 10). Kie Kitano (pictured above, front right) will play Aki, a mother of one child. Yūta Hiraoka (pictured above, back right) will play Tatsuya, Aki’s husband. Tatsuya and his family force Aki to do housework and childcare that should only be done by women.
The series will premiere on January 18. It will be broadcast locally on terrestrial television in the Kansai region, and the series will stream exclusively on DMM TV.
Satō and Kiduki launched the short manga in Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine in December 2021. The manga is about “misfortune brought about by marriage” and a wife who vows revenge on a husband. Futabasha published the manga’s first compilation volume on April 12 and the fourth volume on November 9.
The husband and wife team previously published manga such as Ichigo no Gakkō, Maid Shokun!, Manman-chan, ONE.; and Megane × Parfait!. Tokyopop published Maid Shokun! comics in English. The duo’s manga Usotsuki Paradox was adapted into a live-action film in 2013. The duo also released Renai Muzai-Ai o Chikatta Hazu da yo ne?-) (Not Guilty of Love-We Swore a Vow of Love, Right?-) manga in Shueisha’s Grand Jump Mecha magazine in March 2021.
