Mods have long been considered a spiritual dish, a spice that contributes to making many games more “rich” and more interesting. Even for some blockbusters like Minecraft, mods created by gamers themselves are considered the biggest key to its success. And recently, a “super huge” mod version is about to appear. It's called Skywind – a mod specifically for The Elder Scrolls.
It will be a long time before The Elder Scrolls 6 is released and while waiting for the appearance of this blockbuster, fans of The Elder Scrolls series will probably be more interested in Skywind. For those who don't know, Skywind, a mod remake of Morrowind in Skyrim's engine, has been in the works almost since the moment Skyrim was released in 2011. A group of volunteer modders have been hard at work on the project. This ambition and after nearly 13 years of development, up to now this “super mod” has not really been released. For a very simple reason, it has the same amount of content as a real blockbuster.
Let's do a simple comparison. The original version of the game had about 1,000 NPCs and was voiced by 70 actors. Meanwhile, according to the reveal, Skywind has about 3,000 different characters voiced by about 300 people – mainly volunteers who do it in their spare time. Even the content in the mod is not necessarily copied from the original. Instead there will be completely new characters, encounters, skills, quests and conversations. To put it simply, Skywind is almost a completely new blockbuster, but based on the original version of the game.
Although there is still a lot of work to be done and Skywind is currently recruiting more volunteers to help complete the work, it is revealed that this mod is about 70-80% completed. Most likely, Skywind will be released soon in 2024 and if so, this will definitely be a better gift for fans of The Elder Scrolls series.
