Summary
The tragic death of former Flower Hashira Kanae Kocho at the hands of Doma had a huge impact on her and her sisters. Kanae was a strong, kind-hearted demon slayer who taught her and her sisters valuable skills. Shinobu and Kanao's intense hatred of Doma stems from their search for justice for Kanae's death.
Currently, there are nine Hashira in existence. Demon Slayer. These brave warriors protect humanity from the attacks of evil and each of them possesses a unique and distinct Breathing Style that they use to accomplish this noble goal. However, surprisingly, there is an often forgotten former Hashira of the groupwho unfortunately is no longer alive in the story, as she died in a demon attack. This underrated heroine has connections to Shinobu, Insect Hashira, and their adopted sister, Kanao Tsuyuri.
Kanae Kocho is actually the former Flower Pillar in Demon Slayer. There is no Flower Pillar currently, although Kanao Tsuyuri can practice the Breathing Style effectively, so fortunately, Kanae's craft did not die with her.
Shinobu Kocho, Kanae's older sister, and Kanao Tsuyuri, Kanae and Shinobu's adoptive sister, both occasionally mention Kanae throughout Demon Slayer and hint that there was once another older sister in the group. However, she unfortunately passed away in a battle with the devil. Kanae is dead when Demon Slayer begins, so her death is somewhat mysterious and often overlooked in the story.
Kanae's tragic death is a pain for her two sisters.
Both sisters were deeply saddened by Kanae's violent incident with Doma.
Kanae died at the hands of Doma, a terrifying Second-Class High Demon. One night, she went out, not knowing that it would be her last night alive. Unfortunately, she came across Doma, who quickly engaged her in a battle for her life. The pair fought until the sun rose, This affirms Kanae's great strength and power. Doma is one of the strongest demons in the Demon Slayer series, so the fact that Kanae survived this long shows that her skills are quite advanced. Sadly, her efforts to kill the demon were not enough, and she breathed her last while Shinobu held her.
Doma had to flee from the rising sun, as the sunlight would kill him, causing Kanae to eventually die a slow and painful death on the ground, suffering from blood loss and deep wounds. Shinobu had to witness this horrific event firsthand, could not save his sister because it was too late by the time she found her. This event in the story explains why the other two sisters were so passionate about killing demons, to avenge Kanae and save others from the same fate. Kanae was the eldest and her death shook the other sisters to the core, causing them to grieve even years later.
Kanae feels bad for demons, inspiring Shinobu to adopt the same mindset.
Even after death, Kanae helps her sisters become better people.
Kanae is an extremely wise demon slayer and the ideal older sister. She taught Kanao Flower Breathing, her powerful breathing style which was quite effective against Doma. She is said to be the strongest of the trio and, in addition to the help of her Breathing Style, she is also an excellent swordsman, fast, agile and muscular. Kanae supported and protected his sisters with his life. and is one of the kindest characters to ever appear in Demon Slayer, showing love to everyone around him, regardless of whether they deserve it or not.
Kanae only appears a few times in the series, in flashbacks, and even these moments show what kind of person she is. During the Rehabilitation Training arc, Shinobu reveals some information about Kanae's personality to Tanjiro. Shinobu appears to be one of the most cheerful and happy demon slayers, but deep down she harbors a lot of resentment and anger towards despicable creatures. However, she always has a smile on her face, Try to have a kind look towards the devil because Kanae did. Ironically, even though it was the demon who killed her, Kanae still felt sorry for the demons and their miserable living conditions.
Shinobu and Kanao's hatred of Doma stems from what he did to Kanae.
They finally got their chance to unleash their wrath on the demon in the Infinity Castle arc.
Tanjiro and Kanae actually share this very rare quality. It would be much easier to feel righteous anger towards demons, but they both show compassion for those creatures nonetheless. This is just another reason why Kanae is such an admirable person and is deeply missed by her sisters. Even after her death, she still influences Shinobu's worldview and perspective. Her death was a deeply impactful loss, and knowing the full extent of the tragedy of her passing explains Shinobu and Kanao's actions, as well as their angry interactions with Doma later in the seriesin the Infinity Castle section.
All demon slayers apparently share a great contempt for demons, but Shinobu and Kanao's hatred for Doma knows no bounds.and the death of their sister at his hands is the reason why. When Doma and Shinobu first met, he found her attractive and began flirting with her, even jokingly asking her to “go die” with him. However, Shinobu was disgusted and outright insulted him, expressing her disgust that her sister’s killer would even consider pursuing her in such a way. Throughout the Infinity Castle arc, Shinobu and Kanae are angrier than ever, finally able to bring justice to their sister’s killer.
Kanao's rage helped her fight Doma alone.
She can push herself further than normal due to her intense anger towards the demon.
Horrifyingly, Kanao, the adopted sister whom Kanae saved from a life of terrible abuse, fought Doma alone for hoursShe put all her physical strength into defeating the demon. If it were any other demon, Kanao would have had a hard time fighting effectively alone for such a long time, but the years of unbridled anger that had built up inside her since Shinobu's death helped motivate her and allowed her to survive. Knowing what happened to Kanae helps explain Shinobu and Kanao's emotional states in their final stages. Demon Slayer the battle with Doma, as well as why they were able to get so far.
