There are many weapons shown throughout Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, but there are some that stand out like Love Hashira’s whip sword. Demon hunters tend to use a lot of Nichirin swords, requiring more supplies very often. The Blacksmith’s Village arc explores the importance of famous wordsmiths, but also introduces special weapons.
During the first part of the third season, Tanjiro and his friends go to the Blacksmith’s Village to earn new swords. Tanjiro is in bad shape, as are the other Demon Hunters. From learning about secret weapons, such as the three-hundred-year-old sword, and upgrading weapons thanks to Nezuko, there’s a lot to see. However, the best sword by far is Mitsuri Kanroji’s.
The love of Demon Slayer Hashira uses a surprising sword
Due to her attractive appearance, Mitsuri is often considered a swordswoman. At first glance, she doesn’t seem as tough as the others in the Demon Slayer Corps; however, Mitsuri is known as one of the strongest Hashira of the Demon Slayer for a reason. Coming to help the villagers, she wields a Nichirin katana – that is, a Nichirin katana that is as flexible as a whip. Her long, thin, and flexible blade is unlike regular katanas, giving her greater reach and speed.
At first glance, this Nichirin sword seems very unrealistic. It doesn’t work like a regular sword and seems to cause a lot of problems in combat. The question of how melee can be an effective tactic or how it can be encapsulated will emerge in its design. However, Mitsuri has more skill and strength than she shows, being able to use it with ease in melee and ranged combat. Her fighting style is also unique as she created the Breath of Love herself, adapting it to her needs after learning Fire Breath. The fifth episode of Demon Slayer Season 3 shows her first form: Shivers of First Love. This was enough to take down one of the demon fish summoned by Gyokko.
The whip tends to become iconic weapons when used effectively by characters in comic books and other media. Indiana Jones and Catwoman are both famous for using whips as primary weapons. It is very rare to use a combination of whip and sword, although there are examples such as Soul Caliber’s Ivy. While Tanjiro’s Fire Breath and Nezuko’s power-ups work together to create a burning blade, fire swords are not uncommon in general. After all, swords of fire can be found in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and extend the history back to Biblical, Hindu, and Celtic lore, among others. From serrated edges to giant swords, the anime is filled with impressive weapons. However, Mitsuri Kanroji’s whip katana is surprising and innovative, giving Hashira the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba a more distinctive fighting style than she can get with a standard katana.
