Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. It was serialized from September 2011 to September 2014 and has 14 compiled volumes. Tokyo Ghoul:re is a sequel manga, serialized from October 2014 to July 2018.
The original Tokyo Ghoul manga was adapted into an anime in the summer of 2014. A second season, titled Tokyo Ghoul √A, continued the original story and aired in the winter of 2015. The sequel manga, Tokyo Ghoul:re, also received an anime adaptation, which aired over two seasons: the first in spring 2018 and the second in fall 2018.
A live-action film based on the manga was released in Japan in July 2017, with a sequel released in July 2019.
VIZ has licensed the manga, and they describe the story:
Shy Ken Kaneki is excited to date the beautiful Rize. But it turns out she's only interested in his body—that is, eating it. When an ethically questionable rescue turns him into the first half-human, half-Ghoul hybrid, Ken is drawn into the dark and violent world of the Ghouls, which exists alongside our own.
The series began celebrating its 10th anniversary in March of this year with a special website.
