Warning: SPOILERS for episode #8 of Pokémon Horizons Pokémon Horizon The anime revealed one last airship crew member who could become the main character, and episode #8, at last, gave fans a good introduction to the mysterious teammate. This.
Episode #7 of Horizons reveals that in addition to the original crew of Friede, Riko, and Roy, there is another person on board: Murdock’s daughter, known as Dot. Dot is said to be a bit difficult to get along with and a bit reclusive, rarely leaving her room on the airship – the same one that Quaxly has been seen entering and leaving. The episode also heavily hints that Dot may actually be the streamer Nidothing (Gurumin in Japanese) who is quite knowledgeable about Pokémon and that both Riko and Roy are big fans. While the new heroes don’t know that fact yet, they talked to Dot in episode 8, beginning to build a connection with her.
Pokémon Horizons’ Dot is a new type of hero for the series
While Riko is kind-hearted, she often struggles with anxiety and confidence. Roy, too, is cheerful, kind, and confident for days, but his abilities don’t always match what he dreams of achieving, if only because he’s so new to everything. chief. However, the introduced Dot was quite rude. She never leaves her room, not even when eating, and repeatedly refuses meals made for her in favor of emergency rations. However, she has a completely different personality from Nidothing, which she shows by saying “Spirit switch, on!” when she goes into performance mode. Riko has heard Nidothing’s theme song coming from her room, but suspects that she is also simply a fan and believes they will get close because of it. They do have a successful conversation shortly, though, as Dot explains (through the door) that she’s interested in ancient mysteries or mystical artifacts – both of which apply to Riko and Roy.
Even going back to Ash’s days in the anime, there hasn’t really been such an antisocial protagonist on Pokémon before. There have been very nervous characters in the past, like Lillie, but that’s closer to Riko than to Dot. Most characters, even loners and rivals, still tend to have the ability to properly socialize, they just choose not to do so. Dot seems to be different in this regard, as interacting with people is really hard for her, to the point where she created this alter ego streaming character Nidothing, the extrovert and much more confident. Helping Dot come out of his shell and become friends with Riko and Roy is sure to be the main theme of the future series, something likely to be more impactful than Ash’s one-time friendship with the others. such character.
Pokémon Horizons has certainly found an interesting premise for a protagonist, and so far the execution has been done well enough. It will be interesting to see how Dot develops when Pokémon Horizon The series continues, and will she finally be able to join them in their adventures in the wider world.
