Osamake: Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won't Lose author Shuichi Nimaru opened up about his dark experience after adapting the anime. In a post on With the support of a friend, I watched episodes 3 and 4 but gave up. I was in shock for 6 months and could not write and drank alcohol regularly.“
Nimaru continued, “Volume 1 alone was reprinted 19 times in 22 months (54 times for all volumes), but nothing in the 3 years following the anime. I am still struggling to write better and perfect my work, even though the level of damage and slander is painful!“
Anime character Osamake Kuroha Shida
Immediately after the Osamake anime aired from April – June 2021, the original light novel series switched from being published regularly at 1-4 month intervals to an 8 month gap from June 2021 to February 2021. 2022 with Volume 9. This is followed by 8 months between volumes 9 and 10, volumes 10 and 11, and 9 months between Volume 11 and the latest Volume 12, released on March 8, 2024.
Nimaru's admission was sparked by a fan who quote-tweeted his post on the anime My Senpai Is Annoying, which was very well adapted by comparison. Although both films were made by Doga Kobo, Nimaru said of the latter, “Wow, this opening is amazing! When I watched this drama, even though it was a story about a senior and an annoying junior in an office romance where the dance was not part of the plot, the OP had these more impressive moves than Osamake in terms of dancing and CM production. I actually remember being surprised.”
Doga Kobo's Osamake anime, despite attracting many viewers (ranking in the top 3% of most viewed anime on MyAnimeList), the anime proved to be quite unpopular with fans as it scored 6.1 on the site . Crunchyroll airs the series and describes it:
“She just smiled at me. Her name is Kachi Shirakusa and she's even an award-winning high school girl writer! And she is so beautiful! I knew that she was completely out of my reach, an ordinary high school student named Sueharu Maru! But I think there's something there… No, there's definitely something there! Or so I thought… but Kachi has a boyfriend?!
Seeing me depressed, my friend since childhood was very cute, cheerful and liked to take care of others, Shida Kuroha… who also didn't seem to have a boyfriend. The matter of telling me that she likes me for some reason just suggests, 'Let's get revenge.'”
