The anime Frieren: Beyond Journey's End ended its two-episode run on Friday, teasing the sequel with the final frame containing the message “The journey to the end continues.” Ende is an area located in the northernmost part of the continent, where the Demon King's Castle is located. This is also the supposed location of Aureole, a place known as paradise and where Frieren and the new group are heading. The X account (formerly Twitter) of the manga Frieren: Beyond Journey's End posted a photo of Frieren with the same message as the caption. There is currently no official confirmation that the series will have a sequel.
The anime's first season began on September 29, 2023, and returned with a second season on January 5, 2024. Studio Madhouse (A Place Beyond Than The Universe) animated the first season with direction by Keiichiro Saito (Bocchi the Rock!). Tomohiro Suzuki (One Punch Man) wrote the script, Evan Call (Violet Evergarden) composed the music and Reiko Nagasawa (takt op. Destiny) designed the characters. Atsumi Tanezaki voices the main character Frieren, while Kana Ichinose and Chiaki Kobayashi play Fern and Stark, respectively.
Crunchyroll streams the anime and they describe the story as follows: After the group of heroes defeat the Demon King, they restore peace to the land and return to their lonely lives. Many generations pass and the elven mage Frieren must face the death of humanity. She takes on a new apprentice and promises to fulfill the dying wishes of her old friends. Can the elven mind make peace with the nature of life and death? Frieren embarked on a journey of understanding.
