Super cute Hokkaido girls episode 9 takes Tsubasa, Minami and classmate Takayumi to the famous Lake Abashiri in Hokkaido for fishing. In the past few episodes, the series has focused on Sayuri and Rena, but the latest episode is all about Tsubasa and Minami. It’s clear that Minami isn’t backing down in her pursuit of Tsubasa’s heart despite the competition.
Lake Abashiri is extremely relaxing
Takayumi Matsuo is by far a very minor character in the series. He is best remembered as the classmate who rudely expressed his displeasure with Minami due to her not making her own chocolate at home in the Valentine’s Day episode. At the beginning of episode 9, Takayumi has a small redemption scene where he apologizes to Minami on White Day-a Japanese holiday for boys giving gifts to girls in response to Valentine’s Day. One trend of this series that I love is that each character is wholesome and redeemable. Even if the overly positive and humble characters don’t reflect real life, I still enjoyed the comfort of watching the movie.
After receiving advice from Tsubasa on the matter, Takayumi invited him to go cooking and fishing in Abashiri, just a few kilometers north of Kitami City in Hokkaido. Lake Abashiri, even in real life, is known to have the best-smelling fishing in Japan. Every winter the Abashiri Tourism Association invites people to try scent fishing, and Super Cute Hokkaido Girls episode 9 made me even more interested in this activity.
When the boys arrive at the lake, Minami and Tsubasa run into each other. Although Minami doesn’t seem like she’s a fan of fishing, she explains that her family goes fishing every year and is extremely knowledgeable about the activity despite her very feminine appearance. Minami is an attractive combination of feminine charm and tomboyish tastes. She is a character that breaks a lot of the norms and assumptions one might have about gyaru characters.
The three waited for exactly an hour without even taking a bite, causing Takayumi to go find his father and leave Minami and Tsubasa alone. Minami sees this as an opportunity to practice her flirtatious ways, which almost ends with a kiss with Tsubasa, although it is interrupted by Takayumi’s return. It’s clear that Minami hasn’t given up on Tsubasa even though Sayuri and Rena also have romantic feelings for him.
Near the end of Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable episode 9, Tsubasa fell ill, leaving him bedridden. While the illness appeared to be just a fever, Minami ran to his house to check on him. She brings Kitami City’s famous mints — candies you can actually buy if you go there — to help Tsubasa feel better. Forehead, the two quickly fell into a steamy situation, causing Tsubasa to unconsciously ask Minami to stay by his side. This is something he might not have had the courage to say if he wasn’t sick or asleep, but Minami treasures this moment.
There are only three volumes left and as a manga reader of this series, I can tell you that there is still a lot to get through. It’s nice to see Minami and Tsubasa continue to love each other more, but their relationship will definitely face some challenges in the future.
