A new anime from Crunchyroll was set up to showcase the music of the world famous K-pop band, bts. fortress is a Korean animated series that delivers a new superhero story and expands the wider offering of the streaming service from Asia, whose soundtrack includes more Korean artists.
Bastions is produced by Thymos Media. It began airing on May 13 and has five seasons. BTS provided the theme of the show, which is the group’s first collective project since June 2022 when they released “Proof”. Additional original music is being provided by other K-pop groups including Le Sserafim and Korean singers such as Heize and AleXa.
Bastions mixes idol culture with superheroes
These unique heroes are preparing to avert disaster! In a world where superpowers are the norm, a group of beloved idols work together to keep society safe. But they are about to face a new enemy: Wash Green. This mega-corporation may call itself eco-friendly, but it really leads in terms of environmental pollution. Can Bastions persevere and save the planet?
The synopsis and trailer for this animated miniseries reveal a fairly simple concept. A group of young heroes exists in a world where superheroes are ranked on popularity charts. They will take on a polluting villain in what appears to be an odd mix of My Hero Academia and Miraculous. The animation style is very different from the style many Crunchyroll fans are used to seeing on streamers who share CGI similarities with Miraculous Ladybug and other beloved youth shows of the last decade. Popular heroes and their ubiquitous presence is a big theme in My Hero Academia, but this project is much shorter in scope and seems less focused on the school dynamic.
The announcement of the series received mixed reviews, as some anime fans were confused as to what Crunchyroll was doing with the project, while others were excited to see what it would be like. any. Also, some fans are just excited to hear a new song from BTS. According to Thyme Media, “BTS is expected to bring a sense of immersion into the drama’s emotions and action scenes by singing the theme song in perfect harmony.”
Crunchyroll’s chief content officer, Asa Suehira, added:
Crunchyroll has an extraordinary opportunity to introduce fans to more animation styles from Asia, and this exciting new Korean series has done just that. And the music of so many K-pop stars has really broadened the appeal of BASTIONS.
Regardless of how the project looks compared to other products by service or animation companies in other countries, this is mostly a Korean product. Many live-action and anime adaptations have been made with manhwa comics and Korean webcomics, such as Lookism and Hellbound. fortress will be the latest streaming service available from the country and its many creative minds when it releases on Crunchyroll May 13.
