To commemorate Mount Fuji Day, slice-of-life series Laid-Back Camp revealed a special image featuring main character Nadeshiko leaning against said mountain. Mount Fuji Day is celebrated on April 23 every year to preserve and promote Japan’s highest mountain. The release of the image not only commemorates Mount Fuji Day but also highlights the strong connection between the anime’s setting in Yamanashi, where part of the mountain is located.
Laid-Back Camp (Yuru Camp) is a manga series written and illustrated by Afro, set in and around Yamanashi Prefecture. It was first serialized in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Forward magazine from 2015 to 2019 until it was moved to the publisher’s website and app for the manga series called Comic Fuz. The manga inspired a three-season anime adaptation along with a movie, a live-action television series, and several games.
Studio C-Station animated the first two seasons of the anime with the first season premiering in 2018 and the second season airing in 2021. The third season is scheduled to premiere this April with 8-bit animation processing studio. Crunchyroll is streaming the first two seasons of the anime and they describe it as follows: Nadeshiko, a high school student who has moved from Shizuoka to Yamanashi, decides to go see the famous Mount Fuji with a 1000 yen bill. Although she tried to cycle to Motosu, she was forced to turn back because the weather was getting worse. Unable to keep her eyes on her target, she fainted midway to her destination. When she woke up, it was dark, in a place she had never been to, and didn’t know the way home. Nadeshiko is saved when he meets Rin, a girl who is camping alone. This story of outdoor girls begins with the first meeting between Nadeshiko and Rin.
