This week, a leak on Twitter revealed that the “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” anime will be delayed by several years. Previously, there were rumors that this anime would be on hiatus for several months. However, after nearly a year of waiting, it has been reported that the anime may not return before 2027 or 2028.
The anime “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” began airing in April 2017, after the anime “Naruto Shippuden” ended. Since then, the Boruto anime has released weekly episodes, ending at episode 293 in March 2023. Until now, fans have been patiently waiting for an announcement about the anime’s return.
One source said: “The return of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has been delayed to 2027, or even 2028. If they change their mind, the show could return sooner but with lower animation quality. Or if the concept stays the same, it’s possible that Boruto will return to a seasonal format, becoming Pierrot’s biggest project yet for the series’ universe.”
Recently, Studio Pierrot CEO Kiero Itsumi revealed in an interview that the studio will focus on producing quality animated films in a seasonal format, instead of a series format with ” some good episodes”. With that in mind, the executive revealed that for now they are completely focused on “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War”, after which they can move on to other titles they own to make them into seasonal anime.
The Boruto manga is currently being released on a monthly basis, so there won’t be enough source material, so fans believe it will be a while before the anime returns. And now this is even more firmly confirmed.
