Haikyu!! The film finally features a face-off between the long-time rival teams
The original manga was written by Haruichi Furudate, the anime was produced by Production IG
Throughout Haiyku!!, Nekoma High have served as rotating protagonists that provide respite from Karasuno’s matches. Although they share a friendly rivalry, that is only now the story allows these teams to officially face off, thus the film’s subtitle refers to the metaphor “crow vs. cat”. The trailer focuses on Hinata from Karasuno and Kenma from Nekoma, making them the main characters in this duel. IG’s efforts here are also evident, with every move and technique shown in the trailer featuring more detail, weight, and smoother animation to emphasize the power oozing out after the player’s moves.
The trailer also reveals that the band SPYAIR will return once again to perform the film’s theme song, “Orange.” Director Susumu Mitsunaka is also a Haikyu veteran!! staff member worked on the anime’s first three seasons, making him a natural fit to direct the sports story’s conclusion. Volleyball anime is one of IG’s recent successes since they first began adapting it in 2014, resulting in four seasons and several OVAs. Since the story has been left hanging since Season 4 ended in 2020, these movies are a much-needed continuation.
Two million viewers will also be given free gifts in the form of a book “Episode 33.5” includes a short story, notes, and sample storyboards written by Furudate. Haikyu movies!! was born in the context of films within the canon of a film adaptation becoming increasingly popular, starting with the huge success of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. There is currently no additional information on whether Haikyu!! movie will be licensed for release in the West. However, since Crunchyroll currently airs all four seasons, it seems likely that the streaming service will attempt to acquire the remaining series.
