Do you remember the late 1990s when Super Mario 64 became a craze? Do you remember the feeling of running at full speed or trying a complicated jump into a castle painting that would lead you to a parallel world? Well, Delicious in Dungeon episode 6 certainly does, because that tidbit is the star of this week’s episode.
Living Picture: Monster or an alternate dimension?
The concept of traveling to another world through a painting is not a new one. Humanity has long wondered what it would be like to be able to jump into a photo, painting, drawing of a distant land or just an inviting image. And as the Delicious in Dungeon team delve deeper into the dungeon and begin to battle hunger, they find themselves faced with that possibility. As Laios stared at a vivid painting, he wondered if allowing himself to be drawn to the image would allow him to eat what was depicted therein. That’s a man who completely understands the concept of ‘living like Larry’.
When he tried to test his theory, Marcille intervened and prevented the living painting from harming him. He laments that she stopped him from trying his plan, and after some back and forth, he convinces the group that they should let him try on a foraging expedition. Although initially hesitant, they decided that any choice was a good choice. This may seem like plot armor, but the hungrier you are, the more you start to lower your cognitive defenses. His first foray ends in failure and his next attempt reveals that he cannot leave the altered reality of the painting with anything in it.
He tried his luck again. And this time, his powers of persuasion brought rewards when he was treated to a party in one of the paintings. However, he was discovered by one of the residents and was almost turned into a lump of coal. Just as he pulled himself out of the picture, he realized he was still hungry even though he had eaten a full meal a few minutes earlier. Now, this suggests an interesting paradox. Since the food he bought and ate seemed to disappear when he left the image, it meant that nothing in the image could escape. However, neither the burn mark on his collar nor the fire the attacker aimed at him were like the picture. So how does that work? And what exactly is going on? There may be no space behind the paintings; It could be an empty room or a space large enough to accommodate a person. While in that space, a person will be subjected to mind-altering conditions that cause the painting to come before them.
On the other hand, this particular monster could be a super earth. What are you asking? Let’s dive into the Fortean rabbit hole! There is a theory in UFOlogy and cryptography that aliens and mysterious beings do not come from another planet but from another dimension. A rift between our dimensions allows them to enter ours. The story of Skinwalker Ranch mentions creatures like this appearing through “gates” seen on the property. Likewise, cryptocurrencies like Van Meter Visitor fall under the super-Earth umbrella. If so, when Laios is transported to their world, he may interact with it, be harmed by it, or be sustained by it. But the moment he exited, that world’s influence did not go further than the given gate, and thus the creature’s fire attack within it did not engulf the room behind it.
Mimicry: The hermit crabs in the dungeon
As Delicious in Dungeon episode 6 continues, the group’s hunger continues. They decided to call it a day and retire for the night. As they set up camp, Chilchuck noticed what he believed to be a copycat. After some reminiscing about Vietnam, he decided he wouldn’t tell the group about it and would ignore it. But then, while following a coin beetle, he accidentally gets stuck in the same room as the copycat. He lamented his carelessness and avoided the side of the room where he believed the imitator was. He then lay on crates placed opposite the box suspected of being a copycat. But surprisingly, the box was an imitation. He desperately tried to leave it. In doing so, he sets off a trap that lifts him and his mimic to the roof, allowing him to temporarily escape. However, the imitator is still right on his tail. When he fights and momentarily stuns the imitator. He realizes that the inscription on the coin holds the key to getting him out of his predicament. He tried to open the door that locked him. When the mimic chases him out of the room, it sets a trap, causing the door to slam shut and sending him to the afterlife.
Delicious in the Dungeon Episode 6 Summary
As Delicious in the Dungeon episode 6 ends us, we get to the good part: freaking cooking!!! Overall, the mimic appears to be a type of shellfish. More specifically, they appear to be giant hermit crabs. And of course, hermit crabs are a delicacy in some parts of the world. Laios and the Senshi pounce on the poor creature like a sorority girl on tequila, causing Marcille (Miss I’ll Eat Anything in episode 1) to panic. At this point, why even protest. So far, you have been proven wrong in every objection. Further evidence that mimetic animals have many similarities with shellfish. It appears that mimics can be toxic depending on their diet. Senshi has removed the internal organs (always a good idea if you’re cooking something unknown) and cooked it crab boil style. Once cooked, it looks like a crab dinner. It even carries its characteristic ruby red color. Have you ever wondered why some shellfish turn red after cooking? Yes, it’s because of astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is a pigment found in their shells. And it is highly thermodynamic. When heated, the pigment peels off the carapace and moves to the surface, where it is now clearly visible. As Chilchuck and Marcille enjoyed their meal, a meal they initially said they wouldn’t enjoy. The episode is almost over and we only have to wait another week for more monster food.
