Creator RuriDragon Masaoki Shindo sparked hopes of a comeback with his optimistic reaction to fans after placing 9th in this year’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the men’s category, said he hopes to bring good news next year. Kono Manga ga Sugoi! is a ranking by famous Japanese publisher Takarajimasha, which releases their favorite manga of the year and is often considered a great honor. Shindo’s statement (via X) read: “Thank you so much to everyone who voted. I’m sorry for being out of touch for a while. Currently my health condition is very good. I will try my best to bring good news next year.”
RuriDragon began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in June 2022, selling 74,874 copies in its first week and launching to rave reviews. The series lasted six chapters before Shindo’s health deteriorated to the point where he could no longer continue. RuriDragon’s return in 2024 will coincide with the Chinese zodiac’s Year of the Dragon, as fans have jokingly pointed out on social media. The manga’s return continues to be most anticipated by Jump readers since its indefinite hiatus, and fans remain hopeful the series will return at some point.
