Onmyoji 0 (2024), a brand new original film from Warner Bros. is set in the same series as Baku Yumemakura’s novel Onmyoji and Netflix’s upcoming Onmyoji anime adaptation will premiere in 2024. The series was first announced on October 31, 2023 (Japan ) via X (formerly Twitter). Saori Hayami (Ryu, Danmachi) was revealed as the film’s narrator along with the original staff and trailer. Shimako Sato will direct and Nanami Kamon will assist with the jujutsu used in the film. Watch the first trailer below:

More than ever, the importance of Abe no Seimei is immense. This is why Abe no Seimei should be depicted now.
This marks the second recent announcement based on the world of Baku Yumemakura’s Onmyoji light novel following the Netflix anime, first announced at TUDUM 2022, which released a trailer on October 19. Daisuke Namikawa and Shintaro Asanuma will play Abe Seimei and Minamoto Hiromasa respectively in the anime. Soubi Yamamoto was announced as the anime’s director, with Naruto Hashimoto and Yuiko Kato in charge of the script.
Baku Yumemakura has been writing the Onmyoji novel series published by Bungeishunju since September 1986. The novel is about an onmyoji named Abe no Seimei, a master of the Japanese mystical art known as onmyodo. The novel series spawned a manga adaptation by Reiko Okano in Hakusensha’s Melody magazine from 1993 to 2005. Onmyoji also received several live-action adaptations over the years: a television series A 2001 Japanese adaptation, two live-action films directed by Yojiro Takita in 2001 and 2003, and two separate films broadcast on Japanese television in 2015 and 2020. A live-action adaptation of China directed by Guo Jingming was also produced and titled The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity.
